To mark Camden Council’s intention to introduce their very own buskers’ licensing scheme – including a general ban on the use of drums and wind instruments, and powers for the police to CONFISCATE instruments from musicians found busking without the licence – we’ve posted our song “IT’S A CRIME TO PLAY MUSIC IN THE STREETS” on YouTube.
The black and white still-image which appears in the video, of a younger Bongo Mike and Extremely Frank Jeremy, playing in the street along with flute-player David Benn, depicts the exact spot in Coventry Street, in London’s West End, where the song was inspired (if that’s the word for it), and first performed.
The song was an answer to the treatment we received when we were first busking in London, but the video was mostly filmed in Leuven, Belgium, where we later played for many years without official hindrance.
For more details about our involvement with buskers rights, follow the link to Busk Action at top of this page.
Our latest video, shot in Skopje Macedonia in July this year.
Edited in London.
The song “Wild Dogs” is on our album “War Sex and Family”, which we are planning to release for download in the near future, on the usual internet sites.
The album was created in the aftermath of the Macedonian civil war of 2001, which we sat through in Skopje as neutral non-combatants, with friends on both sides of the divide.
The decorators have been and gone.
